Vue render … soft blur in post with Picasa. Been a busy week, I’ve been out working or otherwise every single day this week. Lots of laser cutting as well as working in the shop. Also had to brush up my Powerpoint skills to help someone do a presentation. And it’s been raining since last night. In the middle of winter. But hey, I’m not complaining … it’ll keep the fires away a while longer.

Afternoon Flight

Afternoon Flight

Over the ruins of Nuaponec, an ancient city once held to be the legendary city of fool’s gold. Re-discovered in 1892 by Joe Smith, a coal shoveler on the airship Gigantic, the city is now a regular tour stop in the Americas.

The best way to view it now, as then, is by air, and Ancient Aztec Airliners (AAA), established 1903, provides the most luxurious adventure trip for the discerning traveller.

All that said, this is a Vue render with rather a lot of postwork done in Photoshop. It’s given me a lot of grief too – I had to render it in layers because my quad-core, 8Gb RAM, 64-bit computer simply could not render the thing in one go. Sigh. So this is not exactly the image I had in mind when I started 🙂

Touring Proxima Centauri C

Vue render … took 28 hours to complete the render … due to the procedural terrain and the reflective materials, no doubt 🙂

Tiny bit of postwork done with Photoshop.

Vue render, no postwork.

Using Gendragon’s Basichill01 prop.

Had lots of fun working out the procedural texturing of the hill prop, but I think it came ok in the end.

Vue render .. an extrmely long process to get everything just right! Many thanks to my friend Haarsha for allowing me to keep fiddling with it during her visit!

Mirrors and reflections make you work twice as hard 🙂 You have to consider the back view too! I modelled the skirt in Blender and used Poser’s cloth room to drape it. And of course SkinVue for the skin…

And hey, I used Global Radiosity for the lighting model – this image took 6 hours to render … (and I rendered it 7 times before I was happy 🙂 )

Daydreaming

Wow, where did June disappear to? I blinked, and it was gone! Had a birthday, a number of dates with my “just a friend” Ricardo, did a bit of work, played all through NWN2: Mask of the Betrayer (yet again) and attempted various pictures with very little success. This one rendered today while I was at work, and it’s the first image actually completed this month (I think.) I used SkinVue and, obviously, Vue, to render this – mostly to try out SkinVue.

Vue render … learned a lot about the new material zones on terrains as well as ecosystems. Soft focus applied post with Picasa.

Good Morning

Good Morning

I’m so behind the times … I finally got Vue 7 Esprit (at a discount 😉 ) as well as the Ecosystem and EcoPainter modules. This is my first official render with it, and I worked on it about 3 days, in between actual work, that is.

Vue 7 renders much much quicker than Vue 6, so for the first time ever I could use Global Illumination and still finish a render in just over an hour.

Another cool thing is that with the latest update you can now “paint” material zones directly onto objects … so what used to be almost impossible – road tracks on a terrain – was now just a case of drawing two lines and setting the corresponding materials.

And then of course there’s the awesomeness of “painting” your ecosystem the way you want it, and the ease and realism of dynamic populations.

Is it obvious that I’m happy with my new software? LOL, I just wish I had more time to play!

DAZ|Studio render … been preoccupied with other things the last week or so. My PC needs a mind wipe, it’s been acting really weird. And I’ve been working more often than usual in the shop. Cutting seems to be on the back burner for the time being. Ah well.
